As a queer South African Indian Australian woman, Mikhara understands what it’s like to feel invisible – and has used this experience to create social change. She is the founder of two social enterprises: Ethnic LGBT+, an online platform providing support for culturally and linguistically diverse LGBTIQA+ communities, and Ground Chai, a chai company which funds youth suicide prevention causes in rural Australia. Recognised as the Young Australian of the Year QLD Nominee 2019, Mikhara is determined to empower the lives of young Australians. She believes in the life-saving power of storytelling and has spent the last two years travelling 60,000Km across Australia to connect with rural communities to empower them to share their stories. An empathetic, dynamic and committed leader, Mikhara is recognised as an Emerging Leader for the Australia-ASEAN region by the Australian government.
