Instant families

One day it’s one adult and one child, and the next day you are re-partnered and there are twice as many people in the home, four times as much responsibility and no time at all for each other…..what to do? That may well be the challenge for a new step-family, where not only adults start up a new relationship, but so do their children. Margaret Howden, founder of the Stepfamily Association of Victoria says, “It’s essential you put time away for each other. It is not selfish to have time to yourself. If you nurture your own relationship and keep it strong, you are doing the best thing for your children. You will be consolidating the structure of your family”.
