Privacy
Collection of your Information
All personal information collected by Relationships Australia is handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988. Relationships Australia collects information about you for several reasons:
- Your name, address, telephone number, date of birth and partner/family details are collected when you make an appointment in order that we may contact you and identify you when you use our services.
- You may be asked to provide other non-identifying details including demographic and other information about you and the reasons for seeking service provision at Relationships Australia. The service provider will enter this information into a computerised database, which is used for internal research to improve our services, and to provide reports required by our funding bodies.
- From time to time, Relationships Australia conducts broader evaluation and research in which you may be asked to provide information about your experience with the service. We will always ask for your consent to participate in an evaluation process and participation is voluntary.
- If you access services funded by the federal government, parts of your first and last name, date of birth, and gender will be used to create a unique code (a series of letters and numbers) which can be used to track the family relationship services that you use. This will give the funding bodies a picture of how referrals are working and if services are matched to client needs.
Storage & Disposal of your Information
Relationships Australia has strict processes to protect personal information held about clients. This includes secure physical storage of records, the security of our premises and the protection of electronic records. All Relationships Australia staff sign a Declaration of Confidentiality upon commencement of employment. Client files are securely disposed of in accordance with funding requirements, and in line with appropriate legislation (generally 10 years after file closure). Any information stored electronically will remain in the database in a non-identifiable form.
Access to your Information
You have a general right to access personal information Relationships Australia holds about you, and to amend information that is incorrect. Pursuant to the Privacy Act 1988, there are some instances in which access to information will not be allowed, for example, access will not be permitted to information about any other person, including your family members or your spouse/partner. We will only disclose information about you to a third party if you give permission, or if we are required or authorised by law to do so, for example to protect a person from harm.
If you wish to access your personal information, or would like further information about access, please contact the Venue Manager or call our Client Services Team on 1300 364 277.
